Leisel Jones of Australia brought home a gold medal in the women's 100 metres breaststroke event of the Beijing Olympics. Having swum more than a second faster than her closest competitor during the semi-final round, Jones had entered into the final round as everyone’s favorite. As expected of her, Leisel Jones clinched the gold and that too in an Olympic record time of 1:05.17. American Rebecca Soni and Austrian Mirna Jukic trailed Liesel Jones to win the silver and the bronze medals. Jones has participated in this particular event of Olympics thrice before, but this is her first gold.
