LeRoi Moore, the saxophonist and one of the founding members of the highly popular Dave Matthews band (DMB), died on Tuesday, August 19. He was 46 years old. In June, Moore had met with a serious ATV accident at Charlottesville, Virginia, which resulted in a punctured lung and broken ribs.

Last month, he returned to the hospital again citing complications. The Dave Matthews Band is scheduled to perform at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday. As per the DMB website, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones saxophonist Jeff Coffin have been performing in the band in Moore’s absence since the accident.

The DMB website read, ‘We are deeply saddened that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia.’
