The Indo-Czech pair of Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy entered into the second round of the French Open men's doubles event on Wednesday (May 27). Paes and Dlouhy defeated Sebastien de Chaunac and Benoit Paire of France in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. The third-seeded Indo-Czech pair will now face American James Cerretani and Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine in the second round of the tournament.
Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy won their first set in just 20 minutes, with three break of serves. In the second set, the Indo-Czech outplayed its opponents in 30 minutes. The unseeded Ukrainian-American pair, which will meet Paes and Dlouhy, has defeated Spaniards Nicolas Almagro and Ivan Navarro 6-2 4-6 6-2 in the first round.
Meanwhile in women's single event Maria Sharapova defeated compatriot Nadia Petrova to reach the third round of French Open. The Russian tennis sensation, Sharapova is playing her first grand slam tournament since last summer's Wimbledon. Sharapova defeated Petrova by 6-2, 1-6, 8-6. Apart from Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic also entered the third at Roland Garros by beating Tamarine Tanasugarn in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
