Despite the fact that laughing is one among the best medicines for various medical conditions, a new study has come up with a startling revelation. According to the study, laughing can trigger serious asthma attacks.
So laughing is going to be a serious matter for 40% of Australia's 2 million asthma sufferers.
According to an online poll that was conducted by drug company AstraZeneca on 200 sufferers, asthmatics are more prone to the development of this chronic breathing condition 50% more if they indulge in too much of laughing.
This survey has disclosed something which is a more grave concern. Even though 75% of the asthmatics believe their asthma is well managed it is not true. A major part of those who suffer from this condition have a compromised lifestyle.
The survey is a reflection of two studies – one is a University of NSW 2004 study published in the Journal Of Asthma and another, a New York University 2005 study Laughter May Trigger Asthma Attacks.
The survey has also revealed that about 66% of the asthmatics find themselves struggling for breath while doing household works and shopping whereas almost 50% were not able to indulge in their favourite activities according to their wish. More than one third felt tired because of disturbed sleep.
According to a Concord Hospital thoracic physician Professor Christine Jenkins, asthma, when managed properly do not hamper the enjoyment of any of life's pleasures.
"Worryingly, these findings show that while many believe they have their asthma under control, the asthma is actually controlling them and their lifestyles," she said.
