Lalit Modi has become the highest tax payer of India.
Former Andhra Pradesh CM YSR Reddy’s son Jagan Mohan Reddywho had paid just Rs 2.92 lakh tax for the entire financial year 2008-09, has paid Rs 6.6 crore advance tax in the first six months of this year.
A contender for chief ministership of Andhra Pradesh, Jagan who is one of the strong contenders for Chief minister post of Andhra Pradesh had paid no tax in H1 last year. According to sources ,Jagan, is the only recognised politician in the top 100 taxpayers, according to sources.
Among cricketers, Sachin Tendulkar paid Rs 8 crore last year and Rs 1.5 crore in the first half of this fiscal year. M S Dhoni is second, having paid Rs 4.6 crore last year and Rs 2 crore till September ’09 and is likely to beat the maestro by the end of this fiscal.
Bollywood stars lead the pack among celebrities with Shah Rukh Khan reigning at the top having paid Rs 34.45 crore last year. Akshay Kumar is a close second with Rs 33 crore but may beat SRK this year having paid Rs 4.5 crore in the first six months as compared to SRK’s Rs 3.5 crore. If advance tax payment is any indication, their projected income is between Rs 30-50 crore for this year. Ranbir Kapoor, in keeping with the northward trajectory of his career, has made it.
The two superstars, Shahrukh and Akshay, are followed by Salman Khan at No. 3 having paid a little over Rs 14 crore last year and Hrithik Roshan at No. 4 having paid Rs 14 crore.
