The chief of cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL), Lalit Modi on Friday (March 6) announced that the tournament will be held in India but with a revised schedule. Earlier there were speculations that IPL might be moved to some other country due to security concerns especially after the attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore. Latil Modi also informed that no matches will be organised on the day of vote counting.
Talking to media, Modi said that the governing body of IPL is working on revised schedule for the IPL and it will be released soon. He also informed that a security plan is also being formulated to organise the T20 matches safely. He conveyed his extreme gratitude to Home Minister P Chidambaram for his assurances on providing security. Modi informed that the venues for matches will be reduced to eight cities from initial 14 cities. The venue for the opening game of the tournament has been shifted from Jaipur to Mumbai.
Earlier the Home Minister stated that India is a safe country for cricket but the IPL dates needed to be reworked. The dates for cash-rich domestic tournament, IPL, clashed with that of 15th Lok Sabha election commencing on April 16. The possibilities of holding the second season of IPL suffered severe setback when unidentified gunmen attacked Sri Lankan players in Lahore on Tuesday (March 3). The Lahore attack sent its ripples to the entire cricket world and eventually put a question mark on organising IPL in India. But now with Latil Modi's confirmation the cricket fest is supposed to go on without much hassle.
