The committee of Agricultural Leadership Awards 2008 has honored Verghese Kurien with the lifetime achievement award. This decision was taken by the National Award Committee on September 17, 2008. The 12-member national committee is headed by the Governor of Haryana, Dr AR Kidwai. The lifetime achievement award conferred to Mr. Kurien has been instituted by the national agricultural magazine, Agriculture Today which is published by Center for Agriculture and Rural Development.
The 80-year-old Verghese Kurien was the spearhead of White Revolution in India. He was selected for the lifetime time achievement award because of his ample contribution towards the milk industry of India. He fulfilled the dreams of millions of milk men across the country by implementing better techniques of the milk production and distribution. He brought a huge transformation in lives of Indian farmers under the Operation Flood.
Report says that the Mr Kurien would be honored in an award ceremony under the banner of Agricultural Leadership Summit scheduled to be held at New Delhi on September 19, 2008. The chairman of ceremony will be MS Swaminathan.
