The ambience is already tingling with excitement as Kerala prepares for its first ever Kovalam Literary Festival in October this year. To be convened at the splendid Taj Green Cove on the picturesque Kovalam beach of Kerala from October 6 to October 8, the event will see the presence of many noted writers and authors. The event is being sponsored by The Taj Group, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and publishing house, Penguin India.

The Kovalam Literary Festival will give the denizens of Kerala an opportunity to listen to their favorite authors speak and read extracts from their new books. In the process they also get to interact with them, said a spokesperson for Noctilucent, the event management firm handling the event.

'Kerala has a big market for Indo-Anglican writing. Most of the books written by Indian writers in English are translated into Malayalam and have a wide readership,' the spokesperson added. Locals in Kerala, which is India's most literate state, also like Latin American authors like Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Jorge Mario Pedro Vargas Llosa. A majority of their works get translated into Malayalam.
