Seeking to settle down the recent controversy on the multiple skipper issue Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team management on Tuesday (31st March) announced that the team would opt for a single captain. However, the management would announce the skipper in South Africa. The second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is slated to be played next month in South Africa.
The KKR management circulated a statement among the media in the form of an SMS, which said that, the captain for the team is one as in case of most of the sports. But, the statement stopped short of naming Ganguly as the captain. Nevertheless, the statement spoke of having a set of strategists, who will form a team of 4-5 experts in the field. These strategists will assist the lone on-field captain with their viewpoints on the gameplan set earlier or shoot from the hip as the case may be.
The statement also said that, the roles which are there in the regular format of the game as the fielding expert, batting coach are being better defined to be able to give quick suggestions as in the case of some other faster-paced sports.
