Shah Rukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders beat Deccan Chargers comprehensively by five wickets to win their second consecutive match in the DLF Indian Premiere League in Eden Gardens on Sunday. David Hussey's unbeaten innings of 38 runs was a very important knock which laid the base for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Earlier in the day the Kolkata Knight Riders restricted the Deccan Chargers to 110 runs, thanks to the poor pitch. The Chargers never quite got going with just five of their batsmen reaching double figures - Adam Gilchrist (23 runs) and Andrew Symonds (32 runs) were the highest scorers from their team. Ajit Agarkar and Murali Karthik did the damage for the Hyderabad team with Karthik claiming 3 victims while Agarkar got a couple.
The Deccan Chargers won the toss and had decided to bat but they kept losing wickets at quick intervals, thanks to some good bowling by the Kolkata Knight Riders, and a pitch where some balls were keeping awkwardly low while some bounced suddenly giving the visitors a real tough time.
Opening the bowling for the Kolkata Knight Riders were Ishant Sharma and youngster Ashok Dinda, who was playing his second Twenty20 match. Ishant stuck in the second over itself when he got out Venugopal Rao to a catch in the gully. Later, Ashok Dinda also stuck when he got VVS Laxman out. Adam Gilchrist did play a handsome knock of 23 runs with two sixes and a boundary off an Ajit Agarkar over before being holding out to deep square leg fielder Hafeez leaving the scorecard reading to 48/4.
Thanks to some good hitting by Andrew Symonds in the 17th over, whereby he hit two consecutive sixes off David Hussey, the Deccan Chargers managed to cross the 100 run mark. David Hussey was declared the Man of the Match for his unbeaten 38 runs.
