Industrialist Ashok Todi has been sent to jail till December 12 following his involvement in Rizwanur Rahman’s mysterious death last year. The Kolkata court's magistrate, Madhumita Roy has turned down all of Todi's plea and ordered him to stay in police custody for 12 days. The next hearing of the Rizwanur case will held after December 12, announced Roy. Report says, earlier Supreme Court barred the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from arresting Todi. But the SC asked Todi to appear before the Metropolitan Magistrate’s court in Kolkata on December 1. The Kolkata court had eventually issued an arrest warrant against Todi.
Apart from Ashok Todi, the CBI has listed six other names for their alleged role in Rizwanur’s suicide. The six names include Todi’s brother Pradeep, brother in-law Anil Saraogi, former Kolkata police deputy commissioner Ajoy Kumar, former assistant commissioner of police Sukanti Chakraborty, sub-inspector Krishnendu Das, and Rizwanur’s neighbour S.M. Moinuddin alias Pappu. The charges on Todi tell that Rizwanur was driven to commit suicide by Todi by preventing him from meeting his daughter Priyanka, who had married Rizwanur against her parents’ wishes. The 30-year-old Rizwanur Rahman was found dead Sep 21 last year near the railway tracks at Kolkata’s Patipukur suburb.
