Replying to the Kings XI's competitive score of 174 for 6, the Knight Riders reached the target in 20th over. The Eden Gardens, crowded with over 30,000 spectators, watched this match till last over where victory finally came to Kolkata. Kumar Sangakara made 64 runs for Punjab while Shaun Marsh scored 40. Umar Gul took 4 wickets for 23 runs for the Knight Riders.
 
Chasing the competetive target, Kolkata Knight Riders kept on loosing wickets at regular intervals and they looked completely out of the match but that was not to be and captain Saurav Ganguly blasted a strokeful 86 not out to steal the victory for his side. He was ably supported by Umar Gul and their 49-run seventh wicket partnership saved the day for Knight Riders. In the last over Kolkata needed 15 runs and Ganguly hit two sixes and changed the script.
