A new study has proved that kiss of life actually lowers the chances of survival of people suffering cardiac arrest. The study suggests that chest compressions are good enough for improving the survival chances of the patient.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation can actually harm the cardiac arrest patients. The study conducted by Arizona University has proved that 11% of the cardiac arrest sufferers survive by receiving only chest compressions.
But the chances fall down to 6% if they are given cardiopulmonary resuscitation, while 5% survived without any first aid.
But British heart charities insist it was important to do something – even if it was just ringing an ambulance.
“It is vital that if you come across someone who has stopped breathing you do something,” says Ellen Mason, a senior cardiac nurse from the British Heart Foundation, as saying.
“If you don’t want to do the kiss of life, stick to chest compressions. But don’t do nothing,” Mason added.
