Kings XI Punjab defeated Mumbai Indians by 1 run in a last ball thriller at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on May 21, 2008 to register their eight win in the IPL. With this win Punjab have almost claimed a semi final berth along with Rajasthan Royals. It all came down to the last over when Mumbai needed 19 runs off the last over. Yuvraj tossed the ball to VRV Singh who was hit for a six off the first ball which was also a no ball. This threw the match wide open and the remaining deliveries saw three run outs and Mumbai needed 2 runs off the last ball. Vikrant Yeligati hit the ball to Yuvraj Singh and ran. Yuvi picked up the ball and took a huge leap to break the stumps, thus snatching a 1 run victory. Mumbai were set a target of 190 runs in 20 overs.
 
Earlier, Shaun Marsh (81 runs, 7X4, 4X6) and LA Pomersbach (79 runs, 10X4, 3X6) played fine knocks to help the visitors pose a challenging total of 189 runs in 20 overs. The duo put up a valuable 133 runs partnership for the second wicket and played shots all round the park. For the hosts, Chitnis picked up 2 wickets whereas Pollock and Fernando picked up 1 wicket each. Sachin Tendulkar (65 runs, 12X4) was the top scorer for the hosts whereas Abhishek Nayar (27 runs), Sanath Jayasuriya (20 runs) and Dwayne Smith (20 runs) chipped in with useful contribution. For Punjab, Sreesanth and Yuvraj Singh picked up 2 wickets each whereas Piyush Chawla picked up 1 wicket.
