Kings XI Punjab gave a thorough professional performance in the match against Deccan Chargers. The sensational one run victory over Mumbai did not drain their enthusiasm, nor did they allow complacency to creep in, even though they were assured of a semi-final berth. They got down to business in their usual ruthless manner and notched up a six-wicket win against Deccan Chargers on Friday.
Kings XI Punjab captain Yuvraj Singh won the toss and elected to field. Deccan Chargers openers gave good start and the team made a competitive score of 175 for 4 riding on the half centuries by Captain Adam Gilchrist and twenty-twenty specialist Rohit Sharma.
The openers of Punjab Kings XI Shaun Marsh and Kumar Sangkara gave good start and both of them went on to score half centuries. Sangkara and Marsh shared 84 runs for the first wicket and laid strong foundation for the victory. There were some anxious moments due to fall of some quick wickets and rise in the required run rate, but Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene and young lad Piyush Chawla shared 39 run partnership for the fifth wicket and reached the target easily. After this victory Kings XI Punjab share top position with Rajasthan Royals, with 18 points from 12 matches.
