Kings XI Punjab defeated Bangalore Royal Challengers by 9 wickets at the PCA stadium in Mohali on May 12, 2008, to register their sixth win in the IPL. Batting first, the Royal Challengers put up a modest total of 143 runs in 20 overs, which the hosts managed to overcome quite easily. The Bangalore team kept losing wickets at regular intervals which retarded their progress.

Mark Boucher (39 runs, 4X4, 1X6) was the top scorer for Bangalore as other batsmen failed to chip in. Virat Kohli(21 runs), Misbah-ul-Haq(21 runs),  Rahul Dravid(29 runs) all got good starts, but failed to convert them into big scores. Sreesanth was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts claiming 3 wickets whereas Piyush Chawla claimed 2 victims. VRV Singh and Irfan Pathan chipped in with 1 wicket each.

Punjab replied positively with Shaun Marsh and James Hopes putting on 42 runs for the first wicket. Marsh hit the Bangalore bowlers all over the park and played a blistering knock of 74 runs in 51 balls which included 9 fours and 2 sixes. After Hopes (27 runs) departed he was well supported by LA Pomersbach(34 runs) as the duo guided their team to victory in just 15.4 overs. Vinay Kumar picked up the solitary wicket for the Royal Challengers. This is the seventh loss for the Bangalore team in the 9 matches they have played so far.
