The key accused in Rizwan Rahman suicide case, industrialist Ashok Todi and his brother Pradip Todi got bail. After granting the bail, the Supreme Court of India ordered the Todi brothers to submit their passports and asked them not to move out of Kolkata without prior permission of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The apex court also warned them to abstain from communicating or influencing witnesses connected with the case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has accused Ashok Todi and his two relatives-Pradip Todi and Anil Saraogi, Rizwanur's family friend Pappu and three Police Officers- Former Deputy Commissioner Ajoy Kumar, ACP Sukanti Chakraborty, Sub-Inspector Krishnendu Das of having connection with Rizwanur's death. The CBI had launched an investigation on the case on October 14, 2008.
The dead body of the 30-year-old Muslim graphics designer Rizwan Rahman was found near the railway tracks at Kolkata's Patipukur suburb on September 21, 2007. Before his death, Rizwan Rahman was married to Ashok Todi's daughter Priyanka Todi. Although the police claimed it to be a suicide case, Rizwanur's family members were not convinced and moved to the higher level courts seeking a CBI inquiry.
