The first communications’ satellite of Kazakhstan, KazSat-1, has been put into the orbit for a space burial. This information was given by the mission control of the country on Friday.

KazSat-1, a $100 million communications’ satellite, had been built by Khrunichev Space Centre of Russia for Kazakhstan. The satellite had been put into the orbit in June 2006 at a distance of about 36,000 kilometres above the earth.

The communications’ satellite features four Ku-band transponders for TV transmissions along with eight Ku-band transponders for landline communications. This satellite had been designed for fixed satellite communication as well as for data transmission covering the regions of Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

The mission control officials lost the complete control of this communications satellite during the last year because of which they decided to discard the satellite in August this year. The decision was taken as the satellite posed a threat of collision with other satellites.

The manufacturer of the KazSat-1 satellite, Khrunichev Space Centre, had guaranteed Kazhakistan that the satellite will have a service life of 10 years.
