In order to enhance higher education facilities in the border regions of Kargil and Kupwara, the University of Kashmir declared on Wednesday 4 June that it will soon set up two extra campuses in the above mentioned regions. Sources inform that this decision was taken during a meeting of the Kashmir University Council (KUC) held on Wednesday, which was headed by Governor Lt Gen (retd) S K Sinha, who also happens to be the Chancellor of the University.
Among others who attended this meeting include State CM cum Pro-Chancellor of the University Ghulam Nabi Azad, Vice-Chancellor Riyaz Punjabi, etc. As such one the new campuses are ready, the twin Universities of Jammu and Kashmir will have a total of eight campuses across the state. Vice-Chancellor Riyaz Punjabi has divulged that the process to create new campuses located at Anantnag, Baramulla and Leh has already started.
