Radovan Karadzic, the Serb leader of Bosnia charged for the crime of genocide has been handed over to the UN war crime tribunal. The charge of genocide on Serb leader is based on the evidence of the events of Bosnia’s 1992-1995 war where under 44 month’s siege of Sarajevo and the Srebrenica thousands of people had died.
Earlier, in the last week, the 63-year-old Karadzic was arrested in Belgrade. Subsequently, he was dispatched to Holland for further investigations. Now, he will be tried by a special justice tribunal meant for the purpose of crimes committed in Yugoslavia called ‘International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).’
He is charged with 11 counts of genocide, war crimes and crime against humanity, and if found guilty, which is likely, he will be given life imprisonment. Although, the trial is supposed to start now, it might take some more time to start arguments from both sides. He has been free for thirteen long years, was caught last week living a life of alternative medicine guru.
