Union Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal, while citing that government will be setting up 14 innovation universities, mentioned that he is keen on entering into alliances with US-based universities for shaping the structure of the proposed institutes.
"We hope that we can forge alliances with one or two top universities in the United States for partnering with us in the architecture (structure) of one or two innovation universities," Sibal, who is on a week-long visit to the US, said.
Sibal’s itinerary will cover visits to some of the reputed unioversities of the world including Harvard, Yale, George Washington and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he will hold discussions for enabling partnership with premier institutes of India.
The HRD Ministry has plans for setting up 14 innovation universities under the 12th Five Year Plan for giving a boost to research and development activities in India.
