In order to fulfill the long-standing demand of Karnataka's film industry and movie enthusiasts, the state government has agreed to launch a film academy on Friday (June 5). The new Kannada Film Academy will not only look into the film-related activities but will also act as a mediator between the government and film agencies. The plan to set the film academy was put forward by the then CM M. Veerappa Moily in 1993.
While speaking to media, the first chairman of the film academy, T.S. Nagabharana said that his job will be to involve the industry people and film enthusiasts in the academy. He also informed that the soon-to-be-launched film academy will play an important role in bridging the gap between the state government and the film agencies. He stated that Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, film societies and other related bodies in the film trade will offer their full cooperation and contribution for the development of the academy.
The Kannada Film Academy at Bangalore will also handle the responsibility of distributing film awards and subsidy in its own hands. Nagabharana informed that the state cinema body is also planning to conduct seminars and film appreciation courses for the benefit of film enthusiasts and film industry people. The film academy at Bangalore will be inaugurated by chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa while Information Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu and president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce Jayamala will be the chief guests.
