The judge who was holding the trial of the seven suspected of Mumbai 26/11 attacks at an anti-terrorism court has said that he is quitting the trials due to "unavoidable reasons".
The trials were being held under tight security at the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Baqir Ali Rana, in a formal request to the Lahore High Court on Tuesday, asked it to excuse him from the proceedings and cited "unavoidable reasons" for this.
The request is currently pending with the Chief Justice's office, officials said. But they also add that this decision has been adopted by Rana under pressure from government. Sources also mention that the defence lawyers were also nothappy with the way the trial was progressing.
The next hearing of the case is scheduled for October 24.
