Jammu and Kashmir Bank Ltd has inked an accord with the state government to set up IT centres in the state. Under the newly signed agreement, as many as 1109 service centres will be set up in all the 22 districts which will cover 6654 villages and generate 2000 jobs for the computer-skilled youth of the state. The chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank, Dr. Haseeb Drabu signed the accord with Principal Secretary, Information Technology, Mr. Arun Kumar in presence of chief minister Omar Abdullah.
The J&K chief minister stated that the spread of Information Technology (IT) in the rural areas is very important as it opens up employment opportunities for skilled people. Omar Abdullah applauded the J&K bank for assisting the government. He also added that the new scheme will immensely benefit the rural people and put the villages on to an information super highway.
The J&K chief minister informed that the proposed service centres will come up within one year and hoped that the project becomes successfully. The centres will have adequate IT infrastructure for providing various customer-friendly services including educational, health and financial services to the rural people.
