Jitender Kumar, admitting himself a close friend of Akhil Kumar has defeated Uzbek rival Tulashboy Doniyorov by 13-6 in pre-quarterfinal of flyweight boxing (51kg)  at the Workers Gymnasium. This youngster, who has just completed his teenage, did well in the match and, at no point of the match his opponent seemed matching Jitender’s stamina and punctuality of punches.

Sharing his experience with his boxing teammate Akhil, he happily said that Akhil is his friend, philosopher and guide, and he had helped him immensely in terms of morale. Also, Jitender considers that his style of fighting is similar to one of Akhil’s. He wishes to follow and emulate Akhil and in case of his winning a medal in Beijing, he will dedicate the same to him.

One more win will lead to a medal for this boxer; however, the next match would not be easy as this time he will fight against three-time European flyweight champion Georgy Balakshin of Russia in the quarterfinal. He however is full of vengeance when he says that though he has lost against him earlier, he would not leave him this time; he wants to avenge against Russian boxer.
