Election Commissioner S Y Qureshi has disclosed that Election Commission will be announcing the dates of elections in Jharkhand today at 5 pm.
The stage for holding Jharkhand elections has been cleared. The state had been under the rule of the President for the past nine month after the 81-member House was dissolved by the Union Cabinet.
The decision to approve dissolution of the assembly would be communicated to President Pratibha Patil for issuance of notification.
The Jharkhand governor K Sankaranarayanan had requested home ministry to dissolve the cabinet after which the Union Cabinet gave the approval. He had also cited that the election can be held in the state now.
The President's Rule was to end on January 19 next year.
