The passengers on Wednesday had to face the consequences of the dispute happening between the management and pilots of Jet Airways. With more pilots going on ‘sick’ leave on Wednesday, the passengers had to pay a heavy amount to continue their flight via other domestic carriers.
The air fares have soared to a level, which is similar to the fares during the 1990s. The seats on Mumbai-Delhi routes are being sold at an average of Rs 9,000-10,000. Cases have also been reported where the passengers are being charges Rs. 15,000 on the Mumbai-Delhi route. Jet Airways has cancelled about 296 flights, taking the total number of cancellations in two days to over 480.
The Jet Airways on Wednesday sacked five more pilots, taking the total to a 10. Even though the officials of Jet Airways management are sticking on to their statement that, they have sacked only 2 pilots, the pilots have disclosed that more than 5 pilots have been sacked.
The sacking of employees only added fuel to the protests of the pilots, with a total of 500 pilots reporting ‘sick’ on Wednesday. Jet chairman Naresh Goyal was blunt: "They are behaving like terrorists. They cannot hold the country, passengers, the airline hostage."
