The leader of Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S), H.D. Kumaraswamy on Monday (May 18) decided to offer his party's support to Congress-led UPA but demanded proper development of the state of Karnataka. The JD-S party fought against Congress in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. JD-S was a part of the Third Front, which was thinking of installing a non-BJP non-Congress government at the centre. The Third Front experienced heavy defeat in the election and managed to win only 67 seats.
While expressing his wish to support UPA government, Kumaraswamy said that his party wants proper development in Karnataka and if the government assures this then JD-S will support the alliance in the Lok Sabha. As per reports, the former Karnataka chief minister has come down to capital to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Kumaraswamy further said that if the UPA approaches his party then he will discuss the development issues of the state and not any personal issues.
Kumaraswamy's party has won three Lok Sabha seats from Karnataka in the general elections while the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) has emerged as the largest alliance with 263 seats. Currently it is 9 short of the halfway mark to form the government. Till yesterday, UPA had 262 seats but the decision of an independent MP from Ladakh, Ghulam Hassan Khan, to join the alliance has pushed the tally to 263.
