Jaya Bachchan has apologized for her anti-Marathi remarks; she did not intend to hurt anybody from Maharashtra. However, she said that she was misunderstood and that her comments were actually hinted at those Bollywood actors who despite working in Hindi films prefer to talk in English during interviews etc.

Earlier, addressing a film function in Mumbai last week, Jaya Bachchan had said that being a north Indian she would speak in Hindi and the people of Maharashtra should forgive her for this. Her statement then had given another issue to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) to start agitation against north Indians.

On the other hand, Bollywood fraternity has come united against Raj Thackeray and his MNS. T P Agarwal, President (Indian Motion Picture Producers Association) said that Mumbai does not belong to people who speak one language only, and no one can force a ban on our films. Pahlaj Nihalani in his statement said that this goondaraj has to be stopped.
