Japanese firm, Koito Manufacturing Co will be the one which will design lights for ultra-low cost cars including the one lakh Tata Nano car. Koito is the world’s biggest manufacturer of headlamps and is the maker of headlamps for Lexus brand cars. The company’s President Masahiro Ohtake in an interview to an international television channel remarked that Koito is in the final stages of creating a simpler light that uses half as many parts as its more expensive models.

Masahiro Ohtake stated that the costs won’t rise with Koito using existing technology and cheaper labor. Tata Motors intends to sell its $2,500 Nano later this year while Nissan Motor Co plans to produce a same priced car for India by 2011. Experts hence feel that Koito has no other choice but to push into this low-cost market as all the car-makers get into this business. Koito and other auto parts makers are hence are reengineering products to supply cars that will cost about $2500 to $3000.
