Jaipur Blasts Leave Several Dead, Government Imposes Curfew

Seven bombs shred through the busy streets of peaceful Pink City Jaipur on Tuesday, May 13, 2008. It turned out to be terror Tuesday for the royal western city of India as the blasts left more than 200 people injured and over 60 people immediately dead. The blasts principally occurred outside Hindu temples and crowded market places of the favorite tourist destination. The blasts occurred within minutes of each other leaving the people of the city in shock.
 
Curfew has been imposed by the government on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 in 15 police station areas of the city which includes Lal Kothi, Galta Gate, Ram Ganj, Nahargarh and Kotwali among others. District Collector Akhil Arora said that the curfew has been imposed as a precautionary measure and will be effective from 9 am to 6 pm. Funeral processions have however been exempted from the purview of curfew.
 
Rajasthan chief minister Vasundra Raje on Tuesday condemned the blasts and remarked that it was a well designed conspiracy by terrorists outfit to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the city. She further stated that never in the history of the state such a heinous incident has occurred. The blasts also occurred outside Hanuman temple on Tuesday, where large crowds gather on Tuesdays to pray to the Hindu god. The blasts which rocked Jaipur on Tuesday occurred at Sanganeri Gate Hanuman Mandir, Chandpole Hanuman Mandir, Tripoliya, Chauti Chaupar, Manak Chowk and Johri Bazar.
