A Jaipur-based social organisation Nagrik Morcha has filed a complaint of fund misappropriation against the chief of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Lalit Modi. Apart from Lalit Modi, former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje has also been charged. The case filed with Jaipur police said that IPL chief had assured the social organisation to giving some of the profits of IPL match played on May 17, 2008.
Nagrik Morcha claimed that Modi had handed over the cheque of Rs 6 crore to former CM Vasundhara Raje but they never received the amount. The money was supposed to be distributed among victims of the Jaipur bomb blasts. A series of bomb blasts rocked the city of Jaipur on May 13, 2008 killing about 60 people and injuring more than 150 persons.
The blasts principally occurred outside Hindu temples and crowded market places of the favorite tourist destination. According the leader of Nagrik Morcha, Suresh Mishra, till date only a part of the amount about has been deposited. Report says that out of the total money, an amount of Rs 80 lakhs is yet to be deposited. Mishra said that nearly a year has passed since the incident and the blast victims were provided aid that was initially announced by the state and Union governments.
