Words like 'Jai Ho' and 'Slumdog' are in contention to become the millionth word of the English language. Apart from these two, there are about 71 words from all round the globe to enter into English lexicon. Indian word 'Jai Ho', used as term of praise in Hindi, became popular with AR Rahman's globally successful title track from the Oscar winning film, 'Slumdog Millionaire'. The word Slumdog from the title of the film describes the pitiful condition of slum dwellers.
 
Another Indian word, 'cuddies' referring to ladies' underwear or panties is also in the race. At present, there are 999,927 words in English dictionary which will touch the millionth mark on June 10. Texas-based Global Language Monitor will make the choice for the millionth word. The firm informed that the word having the highest PQI (Predictive Quantities Indicator) score will be crowned as the 1,000,000th English language word.

According to the website of Global Language Monitor, the millionth word in English is expected to appear from India, China or East Los Angeles because of the global extent of the English language. He also said that it might also come from Shakespeare's hometown, Stratford-upon-Avon. Other entries for the millionth word in English include 'alchopops', 'bangster', 'octomom', 'recessesionista',  'de-friend', 'sexting', 'quendy-trendy' etc. Another word 'OK' is also included in the list.
