Camero, an Israeli firm has co-developed a radar that can see through the wall, making military and rescue operations around the globe much easier. Camero, which developed the technology, has already sold it to several army and police forces. Ameer Beeri, Camero’s technology director remarked that the idea of seeing through the walls had been around since 1960s, but modern technology is now ripe enough to enable it to happen.
The device christened Xaver 400 is capable of seeing through reinforced concrete, brick, stucco, cinder block, drywall, adobe and other common wall types with a range of upto eight meters. Robert Judd, president of Camero USA remarked that the Xaver 400 unit represents a huge leap forward in the evolution of through wall censors. The device, slightly smaller than a laptop, weighs just over 2.5 kg. Xaver 400 provides the operator with a display that indicates the real time location and the number of people behind the wall.
The company feels that the portable radar will also be beneficial for human operations, such as locating people trapped under debris or in burning buildings. The device however cannot penetrate solid metal walls, like shipping containers.
