Iranian Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi has demanded Russia to supply Iran with S-300 surface-to-air missile systems, which it had agreed to do.
"We have a contract with Russia to buy S-300 missiles. I don't think it is right for Russia to be seen in the world as a country which does not fulfil its contractual obligations”, said Iranian Labor News Agency as being cited by Vahidi on Wednesday.
Russia and Iran had entered into a contract in December 2005, according to which Russia had agreed to provide Russia S-300 missiles. But the contract has not yet been implemented.
Even though there had been reports in December 2008 from Iranian media that the implementation of the contract has kicked off, Russia's Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation denied to those reports.
The latest version of the S-300 series is the S-300PMU2 Favorit, which has a range of up to 195 km and can intercept aircraft and ballistic missiles at altitudes from 10 meters to 27 km.
