According to reports from a German newspaper, Israel has urged Germany to supply it two warships without charging them. The newspaper also cited that Israel believes that Germany will render its help for strengthening the Israeli defence forces by bearing the cosy of the state-of-the-art corvettes.
The pair would cost hundreds millions of euros, daily Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung said, citing government sources.
It is very difficult for the radars to detect these warships which have been developed by Blohm + Voss shipyard. Israel has also been reported to be saying that it will receive the weapons from the US. Israel reportedly wanted a sea-based missile defence system.
Germany has previously helped equip the Israeli navy, and delivered three submarines in the years 1999-2000.
Two more submarines are currently being built in Kiel, costing at least 500 million euros (about $750 million) apiece, of which Germany is to pay a third.
