It would surely come as good news for the cricket fans in South Africa. Lalit Modi, IPL Chairman and Commissioner, has declared in Johannesburg that tickets will be available at reasonable prices for the IPL 2009 games in South Africa, so as to allow local fans to watch as many games as possible. He added that the ticket prices will be very conservative and will surely be cheaper than the international prices that one has to pay when going to South Africa. However, it would be marginally higher than one would pay for a domestic match.
Within the next two days, the tickets would start going on sale. The price of the ticket may range between 20 and 80 rands (about $2-8) perhaps depending on the cities where matches would happen. Modi further said that, this would definitely add to the huge success of the IPL 2009, which is being played here because of security concerns in India. South Africa has innumerable sport lovers, especially cricket. All the top 100 cricketers from around the world will be participating in this tournament. The majority of spectators would be from South Africa and a few thousand spectators are expected to come from India as well.
Modi unveiled the plan by stating the desire of making IPL 2009 like a carnival and leaving a legacy behind. There will be entertainment before the game, live bands after the games, and during the breaks. On April 16 there will be a street carnival with over 200 players from all over the world along with many stars and fans to bring the flavor of India to the people for Cape Town, whereas, acts from Las Vegas, concerts, singers and other special events for the opening ceremony are still to be finalized.
