The Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday (May 5) launched a SMS game which will allow the mobile users to earn cash awards by predicting live scores. As per the rules of the game, a participant will have to SMS the predicted score before an over is bowled. One has to guess the runs that will be scored off every ball of the over. If a person guesses six, five or four numbers in the sequence correctly he/she will get a percentage of the kitty generated by the total number of people playing at that time.
There is a minimum prize money of Rs 10,000 for every over, which will increase depending on the number of entries received. One SMS will cost Rs 5. According to experts, the new game is a form of online cricket betting. However, the IPL commissioner Lalit Modi declined to give it the name of betting. He said that it is just a form of discussing the game through texting.
He claimed that it is very difficult to come out with exact ball-by-ball prediction of an over. He also assured that if anything like betting comes out of this SMS game then it will be stopped immediately. According to a media officer of International Cricket Council (ICC), the governing body has no control over it as it is not directly involved in IPL. The game called 6UP will be available only to Indian mobile subscribers from today (May 6).
