New Delhi, Jaipur and Visakhapatanam have been dropped as venues in the latest schedule of the T20 Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament. After recent modifications in the previously declared schedule, the second edition of IPL is awaiting the green signal from the Home Ministry. The revised schedule was submitted to the Ministry on Tuesday (17th March).
IPL sources said that, three venues have been left out as the State governments could not guarantee security because of the general elections. The sources also said that, IPL took into consideration the security constraints of all the State governments and prepared the new schedule in such a way that it would not hinder the election process.
The multimillion-dollar Twenty-Twenty cricket League has run into rough weather because of security concerns. Earlier, the Home Ministry has already rejected two of the IPL schedules. IPL sources said that, the hill city of Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh would host a few matches. The organizers were also looking at Raipur in Chhattisgarh. As per the new schedule Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Mohali, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad will host most of the matches.
