The chief commissioner of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL), Lalit Modi has lost the election for the post of Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) president. The election which would have re-elected Modi as president was won by a senior bureaucrat Sanjay Dixit by five votes. The vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Lalit Modi has received 13 votes while Sanjay Dixit bagged 18 votes to become the new president of Rajasthan Cricket Association.
After losing the election, Lalit Modi said that the new Rajasthan government has put all its effort to defeat him. The change in government in the state has affected Lalit Modi as he used to share good relation with former Vasundhara Raje-led Rajasthan government. Sanjay Dixit, who is a senior bureaucrat in the Rajasthan government, said that the responsibility of an association came as a tough challenge for him. He assured to clean up all the corrupt practices prevalent during Modi’s tenure.
Dixit thanked the association members and the public of Rajasthan for giving him the opportunity to offer his service. The election for Rajasthan Cricket Association president was supposed to be held on February 22, but Supreme Court pulled it back after Lalit Modi's plea of conducting a free and fair election. Ahead of the election, a Jaipur based voluntary organisation filed a FIR against Modi on charges of cheating and forgery. The organisation alleged Modi of misappropriating funds which were supposed to be handed over to Jaipur serial blast victims.
