CNN has unveiled iPhone App with iReport for browsing articles, images and videos in a more personalized way.

The CNN app comes with many advanced features such as live breaking news video, push notification, personalization, location tools and option for submitting user generated photos.

According to Louis Gump, vice president of CNN Mobile, the iPhone app wills sport with rich imagery and videos than the mobile WAP site, which has more textual features with enhanced video features.

"This is a major event for CNN," Gump said. "The impact that mobile can have is increasing. This app is really going to be an important indicator of where CNN is going moving forward."

The new application will be loaded with iPhone OS 3.1, featuring four major sections like the Headlines; My CNN for weather, local news; a Follow tab for specific stories and Saved for marking the articles to be read later.

The app will present the live news videos along with a series of video clips from different topics.

At the same time, the iReport will enable the users to send the photos and videos to CNN directly.

"There's a vetting process on the back-end, so that content is marked as unvetted but not part of the CNN approved content library," the iReport said.

"Editors may follow up on certain ones before they're approved, [at which point] they'll show up as vetted in iReport," the iReport added.

The other applications include, choosing the news from the category, say U.S or World News. Accordingly, the user will get a list of stories along with video clips from that part. The application will have essential navigation facility as well.

According to Gump, reading offline messages with swiping has turned the iPhone into a miniature newspaper.

The users can also click on the add to know the sponsor details, at the same time reading news or watching video.

"From our point of view, mobile is just as compelling a delivery platform as online, TV, or radio," Gump said. "It's just that it has different characteristics. On the one hand, it has a smaller screen, but on the other hand, it goes around with everywhere wherever they go."

"We have very active conversations going on with multiple handset manufacturers and distributors," Gump said. "We're dedicated to delivering great apps, and we'll be more focused on delivering an awesome app every time than getting everything out at once—but we do feel a sense of urgency on that."

The CNN app will cost $1.99 and will be available in the leading stores later.
