A deadly tornado created havoc across a significant stretch of Iowa town in the United States on Monday 26 May. It left half of northern Iowa town either ruined or acutely destroyed. It is reported that six people were killed by the tornado in Iowa, four of them in Parkersburg and the remaining in the adjoining New Hartford. A child got killed by the violent weather in the neighboring Minnesota.

Acknowledging the widespread disaster caused by the tornado, Iowa Gov. Chet Culver remarked later that it was sad to see people trying to sort through their belongings, homes totally devastated. Even rescue teams kept on searching through the rubble later for possible victims, but officials commented that there is little chance that any one would be found. Apart from those killed, around 70 people have suffered injured because of the tornado, among which two are in critical condition.

As per the local officials, 222 homes and 21 business houses have got destroyed and over 400 homes have got damaged. Among the prominent buildings which have got destroyed include the city hall, the high school and the town's sole grocery store and the gas station. Officials state that the storm hit after five p.m. on Sunday and was accompanied by torrid rainfall and winds that raged at 70 mph.
