According to a CBI official, Pakistan cannot give any more excuses for not arresting Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Hafiz Saeed, since the Interpol has issued the Red Corner Notice against him for being the mastermind behind the Mumbai 26/11 terrorist attacks.
"It is an administrative procedure and Pakistan is now obliged to arrest him and hand him over to India for trial in the Mumbai attacks," CBI spokesperson Harsh Bahl told.
Hafiz Saeed is the head of Jamaat-ud-Dawad, which has been accused by India for the Mumbai attacks. This is the organization, which acts on behalf of the LeT.
"The red corner notice (Tuesday night) follows non-bailable arrest warrants by a special court in Mumbai against Saeed and Lakhvi and 20 others for their alleged roles in the attacks”.
"The notices were issued after the CBI asked the Interpol for it with the non-bailable warrants against Saeed and Lakhvi," Bahl said.
Hafiz Saeed had been under house arrest after he was accused of plotting the Mumbai attacks, but had been released by a Lahore court order which said that his further incarceration is not possible as the court did not receive any solid evidence.
Earlier this month, Pakistan's Supreme Court had put off a hearing seeking Saeed's re-arrest.
India has so far provided Pakistan with five dossiers of information on the attacks, including information on suspects and logistics.
