Intel is working with PC manufacturers to bring its reasonably priced laptop. According to the company sources it is making an understanding in this regard with major PC manufacturers like Dell, Acer and Asus. With combined effort it would be able to bring price of WiMax laptop down to 16000. And, with Rs 16,000 laptop the company would have its reach in both urban and rural markets.
After the announcement of 3G and broadband wireless access (BWA) license policy, the company is expecting a big growth in WiMax market alone. According to the company source its sale could reach to Rs 21,000 crore in the next three years. C S Rao, MD for WiMax division of Intel promised that the company believes a WiMax-ready laptop could be possible at 16000 Rs.
Intel’s calculations on Indian market are based on the fact that according to them India is adding more than 6-7 million wireless subscribers every month and if they successfully roll-out WiMax services there would be a growth of around 7 to 8 per cent of new customers in subscription of WiMax service. Mr Rao expected that two to three million subscribers can be added in two months.
