Launching its Connected Indians Movement, chipset maker Intel on Thursday, August 29 said that it is introducing a desktop range whose price starts from Rs 5000 (about $125) in the country. Experts say this would provide fillip to a crucial computing revolution in India.

Intel's South Asia's MD of sales and marketing group, R. Sivakumar, said the company holds there is a dire need for the government and industries to team up with people for making internet accessible. He then added, 'The Internet is capable of transforming lives and the future of our country. Through the Connected Indians movement, we hope to achieve precisely that.'

Launching the Connected Indians Movement, the Intel India officials stated that the idea behind it was to provide cheap machines to users. The government and other industry partners too have lent support to this movement. This will be a sea change from the time not long ago when personal computers came for over Rs 50,000, whereas an assembled one could be fetched for anywhere between Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000.
