In order to restrict indiscriminate losses in the distribution of electricity through out India, Infosys Technologies Ltd has come out with a full proof plan. The IT company has drafted the hi-tech plan in collaboration with the Bangalore-based Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP). Report says that the plan is commissioned by the Ministry of Power. Under the proposed plan, new means will be implemented to stop aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses in electricity distribution.
According to the vice-chairman of Infosys Technologies Ltd, Nandan Nilekani, the electricity crisis of India is contributed by many factors and one of them is losses in distribution. He stated that India incurs 33 per cent AT&C losses. The IT company also aims to transform the power distribution of the country by adopting convergence technologies and developing a smart card. As per the company, India has improved the generation and transmission of power but the distribution sector has been left unheeded.
The losses in power distribution can be checked by measuring and controlling the flow of electricity with the help of Information technology (IT), communication and automation, said the vice-chairman. The company has proposed to reduce load and congestion in power distribution by using smart grid. This will enable the country to use electricity efficiently and optimally. Infosys also stressed the need of maintaining transparency and accountability while distributing power.
