National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) has conferred the corporate excellence awards to Infosys Technologies and IBM India. Infosys Technologies has received the award in the IT services and product companies category while IBM was honoured for the most innovative project in gender inclusivity.
Nasscom has also recognised other sectors in its award ceremony that took place at the third annual IT women leadership summit 2008 in Bangalore. According to reports, IBM Daksh business process services (BPS) has bagged the award of the best BPO. On the other hand, Ajuba Solutions and ADP Ltd have jointly won the best emerging company award.
While delivering his speech at the summit, the president of Nascom, Som Mittal stated that women employees play an important role in Indian IT sector. According to him, women employees hold 28 per cent of the total IT workforce. The gender inclusivity award which was bagged by IBM India has been instituted to recognise companies doing outstanding work for inclusive growth.
Nasscom is hopeful that the IT industries will absorb more women workforce in future. Nasscom instructed the IT industries to focus on the bright and talented youth graduating from professional colleges, technical institutions and universities. According to the president of Nasscom, women employees are supposed to constitute about 50-55 per cent of the total IT workforce in future.
