Easternmost Indonesian province of West Papua was jolted by an earthquake registering 6.1 on the Richter scale on Sunday morning; however, there were no immediate reports of injury or damage, according to the Indonesian seismological agency.
According to Indonesia's National Meteorology and Geophysics Agency the quake hit at 12.36 p.m. local time (0336 GMT) and was cored in the sea for about 123 km north-west of Manokwari on West Papua province, and took place at about 56 km beneath the seabed.
The latest of a series earthquake to jolts Indonesia in recent days, this earthquake did not register any immediate reports of injuries or structural damage.
The official death toll from Wednesday's quake stood 548 late Saturday, while hundreds of others remained unaccounted for. In West Sumatra, rescue work was deepened for survivors who were trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings however the hopes were little in finding them alive four days after a powerful quake struck the province.
Indonesia is the world's largest archipelago nation, which sits along the Pacific Ocean's "Ring of Fire", where the assembly of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.
In December 2004, a major earthquake and subsequent tsunami hit, leaving more than 170,000 people dead or missing in Indonesia's Aceh province and half a million people homeless.
