Foreign Secretary level talks between India and Pakistan have begun at Islamabad on Monday, May 20. Talks are taking place for the very first time since a new civilian government took over the reins into its own hand from the military rule in Pakistan. First, the foreign secretaries of both the countries and then the Foreign ministers will engage in the peace talks, which are being convened against the background of a vital ceasefire violation by Pakistan recently at Tangdhar in north Kashmir. Apart from this, there has occurred another firing incident along the Line of Control on Monday 20 May in which an Indian solider posted in the area got killed.

In this Indo-Pak peace meeting, the foreign minister of India Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to meet the man behind the new Pakistani government Asif Ali Zardari of the PPP, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as well as President Pervez Musharraf. This important peace talk between the neighboring nations is being held at a time when there has been a disagreement among Pakistan's coalition partners over reinstating judges sacked earlier by President Musharraf. The domestic crisis that has gripped Pakistan since March previous year has prevented it from progressing as far as the dialogue process is concerned.
