India is hosting a six-week long Shared Histories Festival of Arts & Culture at Johannesburg. It will be marked by the convention of three exhibitions and a rocking performance by Indian pop group Indian Ocean towards the weekend. The festival will take place in Durban and Cape Town as well and is being organized by the Indian Consulate-General at Johannesburg.
The three exhibitions were opened at the Sandton Art Gallery side by side. 'Satyagraha' is a collection of work by young artists who have tried to put across their own interpretation of the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi. 'The Indigo Story' is an exhibition highlighting the rich textiles and handicrafts of India at a time when West was discovering East. 'Inner Voices' features award-winning photographs by former street children.
